Heart Anatomy in ultrasound.
This tutorial will take a closer look at the heart structures as viewed in some of the parasternal long and short axis windows.
In this model we will explore one parasternal long axis view and three short axis views.
We will investigate:
- Parasternal Long Axis PLAX (default).
- Parasternal Short Axis - papillary muscle level (PSAX Pap).
- Parasternal Short Axis - apical level (PSAX Apex).
- Parasternal Short Axis - mitral valve level (PSAX Mit.).

NOTE:As you navigate around the viewport, try to orientate the picture seen in the viewport to match the ultrasound image. Take note of the following:
- Remember: Ultrasound images are flipped horizontally on the screen!
- The acoustic plane gives a 2d image only, structures not cut by the plane will not be vissible on the screen!
- Note the orientation of the heart inside the thorax.
- Note the location and orientation of the probe.
